Haiyan hits close to home

They may be thousands of miles away from the Philippines, but Filipino-Canadians in Toronto say the devastating typhoon that struck six islands southeast of the capital, Manila, on November 8  is very much on their minds.

The Origami  interviewed some members of the community who reside and work in the working class neighbourhood of St. James Town to get their reactions about the disaster, which is feared to have killed thousands and dislocated nearly a million others.

Located in the northeast core of downtown Toronto, St. James Town has one of the largest concentrations of Filipinos in the city.
